O Disclaimer: The purpose of this section is to make the students interactive and observe their surroundings. The answer may vary from student to student based on his/her experience. It is highly recommended that the students prepare the answer on their own.

O No, there should not be different rules for boys and girls or men and women. Both should be treated equally in the society and should have equal rights.

O Disclaimer: There is fair and dark side of everything. At times it may feel good to both the boy and the girl, however there might be instances when they may not like it. Students are advised to imagine what they feel about this and prepare the answer based on that. They may use the following pointers for preparing the answer. 1. Girls may feel good that they can come back home late. 2. Boys may feel bad that their freedom is taken away from them. 3. Girls may feel bad that they have to accompany their father to bring items from the grocery. 4. Boys may feel good that they can now stay at home and help their mothers in the kitchen. This is a good thing to be given a thought. At the end, all of us conclude that there should be equal rights and equal duties for both girls and boys.

What would the children have thought if Pilloo Aunty had paid less money to the kulfi-seller? What do you think about this?

Had she paid less money, the children would have thought that it was a good habit to save money. Also, they would have repeated it in future. I think that it is not a good habit to fool someone and take undue advantage if he/she has miscalculated.

Question 1:

What do you think Akshay will do?

Answer:

Akshay loves his grandmother very much, so he will obey her. Therefore, he would not drink water at Anil’s house.

Question 2:

Why was Akshay confused?

Answer:

Akshay was confused whether he should take the glass of water from Anil or not. Though he was thirsty, he remembered his grandmother’s words, who had told him not to drink or eat anything at Anil’s house. Besides, he did not know what reason he should give to Anil for refusing the water.

Question 3:

Why do you think Akshay’s grandmother warned him not to drink even water in Anil’s house?

Answer:

It is possible that Akshay’s grandmother believes in the caste system. She does not consider it good to eat or drink at somebody’s place who is lower than their caste and this might spoil their religion.

Question 4:

Do you know of anybody who thinks like Akshay’s grandmother?

Answer:

Disclaimer: The purpose of this section is to make students interact and observe their surroundings. The answer may vary on their experiences. It is highly recommended that the student prepare the answer on his/her own.

Question 5:

Do you agree with Akshay’s grandmother?

Answer:

No, I do not agree with Akshay’s grandmother. We should not teach children to differentiate on the basis of caste, colour or background. Children should be taught to consider every individual of the society as equal.

Question 6:

What do you think Akshay should do?

Answer:

Akshay should talk to his grandmother about this. He should make her feel that eating or drinking with friends belonging to different backgrounds would not affect them in any way. Rather, behaving differently with Anil, would affect their friendship.

Question 1:

O Have you ever disliked anybody’s touch? Whose touch did you dislike?

O If you were in Ritu’s place, what would you do?

O What else can be done when such things happen? Discuss.

O Everybody’s touch is not the same. Ritu did not like it when Meena’s uncle held her hand, but she liked to hold Meena’s hand. Why do you think there was this difference?

Answer:

O Disclaimer: This question requires the students to share their own experiences and observations. Keeping this in mind, it is strongly recommended that the students prepare the answer on their own.

O If I were at Ritu’s place, I would have talked about this with my parents or teacher.

O We can immediately go to some other elder present there and tell them about it. It is better not to go near people who make us feel uncomfortable. But if something happens accidentally, we should be careful next time. If that person is a near one or a relative, we should tell them loudly not to touch as we do not like it. It will make them afraid. We should never be quiet in situations where we feel scared or uncomfortable. Also, we should keep our parents and teachers informed about our whereabouts. We should always let our parents or our teachers know if something is not right with us. They will definitely help us.

O  A child can easily recognise a healthy or an unhealthy touch. Ritu did not mind Meena’s touch because they held hands in affection. It was a sign of their love and friendship and it made her feel secure. On the other side, uncle’s touch made her uneasy. It showed that his intentions were not good.
